ABOUT
Starlings: [from me TO WE]
Welcome friends!
I am a Registered Nurse who has started this initiative called, Starlings, where I use emotional literacy with young families and community engagement opportunities to grow our communities with compassion and empathy. I utilize research from Brain Story Science, Trauma Informed Care, as well as my own person and professional experience working with those experiencing homelessness and poverty, as well as growing up with adverse childhood expereinces and mental illness.
My goal with Starlings is simply to help build a community of kids that feels supported and connected by working to remove the stigma around the struggles we encounter while highlighting our similarities so that all children can grow understood and supported within resilient and inclusive communities. My hope is for EVERY adult to be for EVERY child so that all children can grow with the health and well being needed to thrive as adults.
As a parent, whose story includes personal experience with adversity, I am now raising children within a vastly different environment and it has been a privilege. I have been able to appreciate the challenges of my past and prepare for the challenges of the future with an open mind and with the resilience to advocate for those within my community. But I know that not everyone child's story ends this way.
By sharing my personal and professional experiences [as a mother, as a volunteer in the community service sector, as a Registered Nurse, and as someone who grew up in an environment prevalent with mental health issues], I want to share resources and opportunities where we can engage with others and grow in connection and understanding within our communities.
I'd love for you to join us.
