
Empowering Foster and Kinship Caregivers of Youth Growing Up with Parental Substance Use
This 90-minute introductory interactive workshop focuses on building trusting relationships with young people affected by the stress and stigma of a parent’s substance use. Using a relational approach that centers the emotional needs of youth, participants will learn practical strategies to foster connection, safety, and healing. Ideal for family caregivers, foster parents, and professionals supporting young people on their journey.

Recognize the Impact of Relational Trauma: Learn how the stress and stigma of a parent’s substance use can affect a child’s emotions, behaviours, and ability to trust others

Understand How Stigma Shapes a Child’s Hope: Explore how judgment toward families affected by substance use can limit a child’s sense of safety, belonging, and hope for the future, and how caregivers can help shift that.

Practice Stigma-Free, Trust-Building Care: Identify everyday ways to offer care that reduces shame, supports healing, and helps children feel seen and respected.
