Pen Pal Program
For some people, writing can feel easier than talking. A letter can be the beginning of connection, understanding, and hope.
The Starlings Pen Pal Program connects you (or the youth you acre for) with peer mentors who understand these experiences. Through letters, you can share thoughts, drawings, questions, or stories and receive encouragement and support in return.
This program is aimed at young people aged 8-16 in Alberta who are growing up with the stress or stigma of a parent or caregiver’s substance use.
Recommended age:
8–28+ years old

Peers might benefit if they:
-
just want to connect to someone who 'gets it'
-
feel confused about what is happening at home
-
worry about their parent or caregiver
-
feel different from their peers
-
want to ask questions and are unsure who to ask
-
find it easier to write or draw than speak in groups
-
would benefit from encouragement from someone who understands
-
You (as an 18+ year old) or a caregiver to a young person registers using the form below.
-
You (or your young person) sends a letter, drawing, or question.
