Connect with Peers

Whether you want to speak up, listen in, or create change, there's a place for you here. These peer programs are led by people who’ve grown up with the stress and stigma of a parent's substance use, and are here to walk with you.

Choose what's right for you.

Note: we are NOT crisis response,
but know folks who are. Find them here

1:1 Peer Support/ Mentorship

These are for our peers who prefer a 1:1 conversation to ask questions, get help navigating resources or supports, or help set goals and more.

Group Peer Support - Our Murmuration Conversations

Our group sessions have a planned theme for the session like caregiving, grief, or stigma, and over the course of an hour we see where the topic takes us. No pressure to talk if you just want to listen.

Peer Mentorship Program, where we connect our stories to lead change.

Your story matters, but we know it can sometimes be hard to understand and share our stories. The Starlings Peer Empowerment Mentorship (PEM) Program brings together small group support, self-paced learning, and a peer-created workbook to help you explore your experiences with the stress and stigma  of a parent’s substance use.

Through real talk, guest speakers, zine creation, storytelling sessions, and shared connection, you’ll build confidence and discover your own voice as a leader in a community that is rooting for you.

Peer Support in a Box

As peers, we know that joining a new group can be hard. That's why we offer our peer support in a box-we call them hope kits:)

Our hope kits can be ordered by a family caregiver for. young person aged 5-16, or you can order yourself if you are 16+ and in Canada.

Starlings Youth Advocacy Council

Peers aged 16-28 who are passionate about using their stories to ensure every youth can ask for help and find support without fear or shame, because it's their right!

Every young person has the right to live without the fear of being discriminated against, the right to access stigma-free information about their challenges, a right to ask for support without fear, and a right to be protected from and to heal from harm. But many young people do not get to experience this right due to the stigma of a parent's substance use. We are peer advocates on a mission to change this.
