Week 1 Heart Work
This week we will explore what we need to create a brave space for learning, sharing, and storytelling.
1.
Being yourself is a revolutionary act
Knowing who we are can be difficult when we have grown up with stress. Watch this TED talk and reflect on your own story:
-
what experiences and people have shaped your story?
-
when have you wanted to yell, but whispered/ stay quiet instead?
-
what would it mean to be the first domino in creating change?
2.
Introduce yourself in "groups"
It can be super nerve wracking to join a new group! But we are ALL new and all here to grow and learn. Head to the Peer Mentorship Program group page ( link below), and reply to the first comment with your name, city, and favourite saying that motivates you. NOTE: this is a private group only for those attending this current program. You must first become a "member" to join the group.
3.
Think about: What is a brave space to you? What is a "safe" space to you? Read the poem below in prep for our first hang together.
Together we will create brave space. Because there is no such thing as a “safe space” — We exist in the real world. We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds. In this space We seek to turn down the volume of the outside world, We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere, We call each other to more truth and love. We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow. We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know. We will not be perfect. T his space will not be perfect. It will not always be what we wish it to be. But It will be our brave space together, and We will work on it side.
