What This Program Is

​

Grief & Glue is a creative space where youth can connect and explore feelings connected to a parent’s substance use through art.


Through art, storytelling, and peer connection, participants build understanding, coping tools, and a sense of community.

​

This program recognizes that grief can include:

  • loss of connection

  • loss from death

  • changes at home

  • stigma and isolation

  • worry about a parent

  • love and complicated relationships with a parent

Who is it for?​

  • Youth 

    • age 10-15 (youth group)

    • age 16-30.  (Young Adult group)

  • Youth who have experienced changes related to a parent’s substance use

  • Youth who may be feeling grief, confusion, anger, or mixed emotions

  • Youth interested in creative expression

  • No art experience needed

  • This program also includes supports for caregivers taking this journey with their young person aged 10+

Grief and Glue for 10-15 Year Olds

Spring Session Starts March 24 4:30-5:30 Summer Session Starts May 27

  • 6 weekly sessions

  • Virtual on Zoom

  • Facilitated by trained peer mentors with lived experience 

  • Small supportive group

  • Free journal mailed to participants

  • Spirit doll making session with Métis Mama guest

  • Creative activities each week

Each session offers gentle, bite-sized social-emotional learning to help youth build understanding and confidence in their feelings, while art-based activities create space for safe expression, release, and connection with peers.

Grief and Glue for 16+ year olds 

Biweekly sessions Starting April 2 at  5:30

Grief connected to a parent’s substance use isn’t simple. Here, you don’t have to have it all figured out, we explore the hard and mixed parts together in a supportive space. No pressure to share, just space to connect and explore at a pace right for you.

...I have passed on copies of the grief mini journal to some of the youth. The feedback I've received from them has been overwhelmingly positive -  it was very validating, helpful for them to understand and organize their thoughts and feelings, and one youth remarked that her favourite thing about it was it allowed her to get into the nitty gritty. She said she can't talk to anyone about her mom's substance use...
