Peer mentorship program

Advocacy is empathy, compassion and community at work.”-

Janna Cachola

We are all advocates

1.

Watch this TED talk and reflect on your own story:

  • What does advocacy mean to you?

  • In what ways are you an advocate?

  • What issues drive you to share your story, to advocate for?

Week 4 Heart Work

When we have been hurt, that hurt can propel us to create changes to ensure our child's needs are met, and that no one experiences the same hurt. This week we will explore how we are advocates, and different ways advocacy shows up in our lives.

Mentoring young adults

2.

In groups, write down on:

Where are the places and spaces that you have not been and should go

Who are your advocates?

Who are you an advocate for?

3.

Think about:

Together we will create brave space. Because there is no such thing as a “safe space” — We exist in the real world. We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds. In this space We seek to turn down the volume of the outside world, We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere, We call each other to more truth and love. We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow.  We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know. We will not be perfect. T his space will not be perfect. It will not always be what we wish it to be. But It will be our brave space together, and We will work on it side.

Thanks for being here.

We are all a part of the village raising the next generation. How can you BEST contribute.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. We acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory. Finally, we remain committed to continue to learn about the truth regarding Colonialism and residential schools in Canada, and will actively work towards reconciliation while advocating for our government to do so as well.
