This 2 hour, introductory training explores the foundations of trauma informed care (TIC) with a focus specifically on supporting individuals affected by the stress, stigma, and systemic impacts of substance use.

Date: June 25 , 2026

Time: 2:00-4:30pm MST via zoom.

Facilitated by Agnes Chen (Registered Nurse, Trauma Informed Care Consultant, and Starlings Founder), this session invites participants to move beyond surface-level approaches to TIC. Together, we will explore core principles,  reflect on how structural barriers shape trauma responses, meaning-making, and relationships for young people, and practical tools to implement TIC into your practice.

Grounded in relational, anti-oppressive, and youth-centred approaches, this workshop blends research with lived experience to support participants to:

  • Understand the foundations of trauma informed care

  • Explore how trauma shows up in the bodies, behaviors, and care needs of youth navigating systems

  • Begin to apply TIC in ways that are authentic, trust-building, and relevant to the lives of youth impacted by a parent’s substance use
