'Dealing with chronic stress at home and then coming to school and trying to act like everything is okay is extremely hard. Some days I would barely have it together and my emotional state would be hanging on by a thread. I would try not to get emotional and would push it all down and bottle it in. This was a coping mechanism for people to not question what was happening at the time. I struggled to focus and be present in class'.

About the Workshop
In recognition of National Addictions Awareness Week (November 15–21), we’re bringing youth voices into the conversation about how family substance use affects young people at school.
When a student is dealing with substance use or mental health challenges at home, it often follows them into the classroom. Led by our Youth Advocacy Council (YAC), this workshop gives school staff a rare chance to hear directly from young people about what helped them, what didn’t, and what they wish the adults around them had known.
